Meet Chris
I have been a professional counselor for over 10 years. My approach utilizes CBT, the Gottman Approach and trauma-focused CBT. These are evidence based practices which focus on the importance of self-regulating one’s self and using healthy copings skills to increase interpersonal relationships and increase self worth. I obtained my degree in counseling/art therapy with a focus on trauma-informed care at George Washington University. I have worked in a variety of settings including a DC based agency, a therapeutic K-12 school, and most recently the USMC and Navy. My approach is direct, judgement-free, empathetic, and efficient.

What do I need to do to prepare for therapy?
I typically like to have a brief phone conversation to schedule, and I will email you new client paperwork from SimplePractice, which is a HIPAA compliant online system that I use. 2 days prior to our virtual session I will email you a link to our session. I ask that you do your best to be a in a quiet, private space so you can focus.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. I am in-network with BCBS, Aetna, United, Oscar, and Oxford. I can provide a superbill for out of network services.
How much does it cost?
If you are using insurance, your rate is set by insurance. You may call your insurance company to ask if you have a copay, co-insurance, and/or a deductible. Fee for service rates are as follows:
Intake Session (90791) - $165, Individual Therapy (90837), Couples Therapy, Family Therapy (90847) - $150

Sessions are typically 53 minutes.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
It depends! Everyone is different. We will discuss a plan at your intake session.
Are there any limitations to who Chris can see?
You must be located in VA at the time of service. Unfortunately I am unable to see active duty service members or those under Tricare.
Now Offering Walk and Talk Sessions
Engaging in counseling doesn’t necessarily mean a traditional appointment in a therapy office.
In addition to tele-health visits, I am offering walk and talk therapy - meaning a therapy session takes place outside while walking.
Walk and Talk therapy is an innovative form of healthcare integrating counseling, movement, and the outdoors with the intent to strengthen mental fitness via the mind-body connection. Walk and Talk therapy happens at your pace and is customized to meet your individual needs. Prior to booking, we will go over the location, details, and consent form.
Men's Mental Health Stats
Nearly 1 in 10
Men experience depression and anxiety, yet only half of that seek treatment (According to the ADAA).
49% of men feel more depressed than they admit
to others. A survey of more than 1,000 men revealed that men are much less likely to voice struggles with mental illness, and even thoughts of suicide (Commissioned by the Today Show).
men are 3.90x more likely than women
to die by suicide, according to a 2021 study (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention).
4 of every 100 men (or 4%) will have PTSD at some point in their life.
Veterans are more likely to have PTSD than civilians. Veterans who deployed to a war zone are also more likely to have PTSD than those who did not deploy (US Department of Veterans Affairs).
Approximately 21% of men report binge drinking,
compared with 13% of women. More than three-quarters of deaths from excessive drinking are among males, totaling more than 97,000 deaths each year in the U.S. (According to the CDC).
